ever since I haven't shut up about you all my friends have started listening. You have lots of fans in my town man.

sweet! keep the good word of mouth flowing! thanks.

Oh and you said top three songs... Terra angelica, As If, and Waiting to Die. Sorry for the other comments irrelevancy and for commenting on pretty much everything you do.

that's 2 votes for "terra angelica" hmmmm....
and hmmm "as if" probably won't go on there unless i can get together an electric version of it. i'm excited for how that will sound.
thanks for the input.

Gunshy Retrospective? Cool. But is there a lot of unreleased songs? Because Manifest covered 2006-2008. So theres very few rock songs, unless its gonna be like "sleeping with ross" with all that ambient shit.

Hm

If theres any more stuff like Sources of Possible Ignition, stuff you wrote in highschool, thatd be cool.

But

You're a relatively new artist. You have one album. I don't think nows the time to backtrack. Record shit while you can and if you get old and gray, go back polish your old shit and rerelease it. I'm looking for a second album, a new chapter in the story. Not a prologue.

But you haven't really done me wrong yet, ive enjoyed almost everything you've ever made beside the techno; and that's only becuase that's not my type. So you might have secret plans, and you might have some new ideas behind it.

So my last piece of advice is:

Its your music and should be treated the way you want. You should be the brain behind yourself and don't let any of these suggestions get too far past the shell of your brain. So do what you want.

lololololololololololol

good points. i thank you.

ambient: you remember me talking about "sleeping with ross" - yay! that project has definitely taken a backseat in the new climate of ross. when i started compiling my ambient works a few months ago, i realized two things, 1) ambient music is boring, and it actually did put me to sleep making new mixes, and 2) i have to archive my old stuff better. nuff said.

retro-ness: i feel more like this is the album that should have been first, for what that's worth. somebody mentioned an expectation of "excessum ex machina" being on 'manifest destiny' and i couldn't help but look at that album in a new light, of how it is kinda weighed down with grunge and rock. its in-song interludes probably do a fairly decent job of breaking up the monotony, but i just feel like i can make a more DIVERSE record than that, one that owes more to the long, strange trip it's been so far to be able to do songs like "the brink" or "this is it" without disowning rock n' roll for an entire album. so i put together these tracks, making up 'Gunshy' to present a different sound, like a Side B for 'Manifest' in a lot of ways. not necessarily quieter (because many of the songs are acoustic), but more diverse, and thru that, maybe deeper.

the shell of my brain: i have lots of practice sorting out competing advice from my own inner self(s), so i really appreciate outside help sometimes. if you see my myspace (oh shit that's not the main link anymore), there's another 'band' member listed, and most of the time he just says "i don't know, do what you want to do," so concrete, outside advice is, at times, in dire need. there are many moments when it is both thrilling and confounding to be working mostly in a vacuum like i do. this is mainly why i start posting my offbeat rambling descriptions of upcoming songs while i'm making them or planning to make them. the internet plays the part of a sounding board for my ideas. if, for nothing else, to read what i myself am thinking; the awesome bonus being when one of you guys comments positively about just my description of the song, i liken it to shouting out to the crowd "this is a new song!" right before tearing into it, only it takes a while longer.

My Choices:Terra Angelica , This Is It (The Title) , Saving Face Machine

This is a pretty tough decision. There's been a constant feed of brilliant songs for the last year or so.

Terra Angelica: This is the first of your songs that I fell in love with. Long, but not redundant.

This Is It (The Title): By far, the catchiest. When I got my wah pedal, the very first thing I did was the opening riff to this song, it will NEVER get out of my head. That's just the opening riff. The lyrics come in, and it's like trying to shove a minivan into a cardboard box...THERE'S TOO MUCH CATCHY! It's awesome!

Saving Face Machine: This definitely has the best lyrics. It's angry, but sarcastic enough so that if it was on the radio, and you weren't exactly listening, you would think it's a 'happy song.' I always get this awesome feeling in the pit of my stomach, that's like being happy and angry at the same time when I listen to this song, it's just that great!

i am thinking "this is it" should be on there, it's one of my main contentions within my own mind. it's newest, and i'm always partial to the new song.

Afterbirth
Punishment Fits
Four Fucking Chords (plugged)

My opinion anyways :D Definately Afterbirth, such a kickass song. Also Four Fucking Chords is already a hit here so why wouldn't it be a hit somewhere else, despite the "fuck"s there and there. Punishment Fits, what an amazingly great chorus, could be a shorter version though.

hmmm i wish i had the balls to make "afterbirth" the lead song on the demo. maybe as a secret fourth song... fuck shortening "punishment fits" i'll shorten "waiting to die" before i'd shorten that. that's just me.
yeah "four chords" (especially the plugged version) needs the redo before i could put it on there.
honestly i would have hoped to be able to record new version of that and "hotel nj" for the demo, because both those songs got a raw deal, both of them should be as strong as they can and should be.

with both of those done well it would run like this:

waiting to die (or sfm)
four chords
this is it (or terra angelica)
hotel nj

I'm gonna suggest "Waiting To Die", really amazing song.

Also, completely unrelated, do you record/play all the instruments you use in your songs?

thank you

also
all the guitars
drums are real drum samples, beats are composed/programmed by me (i've drummed for two bands, so it's air drums translated into fruityloops)
bass is synth composed/programmed by me (although i can play bass)
all recordings produced by me
all mixing by me
it's outrageous
it's also a lot of hard work
(it's also really fun!)

Oh wait, you asked for top 3.

1. Waiting to Die
2. Twin Flames
3. Terra Angelica

interesting list

My top 3 is :
1. waiting to die
2. four fucking chords
3. terra angelica
It took some time to think what songs are my top 3 coz most of your songs are so good.

that's a tight list
y'all may be on to something with 'terra'

"all recordings produced by me
all mixing by me
it's outrageous
it's also a lot of hard work"

I'll second that :D But when you have the song finished it's such a good feeling (for a while, then you just feel like you need to record it again)

Ps. it's just awesome that you do things your own way and fuck what others say (that rhymes), why should you change the way you do this when you're doing it so well already... ignore us! :D

will do! :)

no, really, thanks!

More insight-

So I decided to do an experiment and put all the songs I downloaded from you off newgrounds on a disc and while someone was driving just put it in...they liked
1.Hotel NJ- One of my favorites to

2.Terra Angelica - seriously this song is mind blowing

3. As if- I listened to this about five times in a row while I was pissed off about something relevant to the song and then I didn't even give a shit anymore

I would also like to mention the lyrics at the end of "this is it" are spectacular.

1. which "hotel nj"? i have to ask.

2. dude everyone's love for 'terra' is blowing my mind!

3. hell yeah. that's why i wrote it. i'm man enough to admit i've cried while playing that song, and somehow by the end i always feel better.

The one I showed had vocals if thats what you mean

ah yes

Yeah, 'As If' is a really deep song. Not as sarcastic as your others, but just as, if not more, emotional.

haha great pic at the bottom.

Come on people, vote for Afterbirth!

IRRELEVANT TO THE POST:
Hey dude, I pm'd you about this idea of doing a song and 'cause you haven't responded I found another way to bug you. So anyway I have a song ready, a song I'd greatly appreciate and love you to collaborate on. It's grunge of course, acoustic in the beginning and starts rocking a little bit later. I'd like you to sing in the chorus and in 2nd verse and this one part at the end of the song. And if you want to you can play a solo or something. If you are interested then I can send you the song somehow (it's a rough version by the way but you'll get the idea)

If you aren't interested then just say and I'll stop bugging you with this stuff and do it all by myself. I just feel like I want to do something interesting :D

Is that list thing a top 3 song thing? Hmm, difficult to choose. I'd say:
Four Fucking Chords (Acoustic)
This is it (The Title)
Terra Angelica
(Runner up: Just Being. Don't leave this song behind.)

Aw balls I forget about saving face machine.

1. Four Fucking Chords
2. Saving Face Machine
3. Terra Angelica

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Waiting to Die. That's an excellent song as well, just didn't make it to my top3.

If you decide to call yourself Ross I'm gonna buy a shirt this weekend. Or maybe it'd be cool if you don't call the "band" Ross just for the novelty of having a Ross shirt. Its like having a "The New Yardbirds" shirt or "Earth" Shirt. Dunno.
