i'm changing my name. my artist name, that is. my nom de guerre, nom de plume, or pseudonym.
i'll probably still be Gunshy on newgrounds, just so i don't have to have some awful handle with numbers at the end of it, but for any publication or publishment in another media (let's say a cd or something) i'll be something else... some other moniker that isn't taken already.

yeah, there's a million bands named gunshy, and it's a wonder to me how they've all gotten this far and haven't sued the crap outta each other for infringement. there's one from germany that's been playing since 1992, and i know you're all gonna say "that's fuckin germany, who cares?" but they actually care, and i just don't feel like dealing with it.
...
so, to avoid fifty lawsuits later in this life, i'll just go ahead and change the name while i still can.
any suggestions?

i was thinking of using my first name as the "band" name, as egotistical as it seems, because there's no bands named Ross (yet) and it doesn't sound sound like some cheap attempt at witticism or irony or like i'm trying to be goth or something... most band names are these things, and i swore my allegiance to myself a long time ago that i'd refuse to do what other people were doing just for the sake of being like them. most people are idiots to me.
ok maybe i am egotistical.
still, any other suggestions?

You could name yourself after a song you wrote and consider the song your theme. I'd listen to a band called Waiting to Die, Blurred Horizon, Saving Face Machine, or any of your song names really. Or you could do what I did and write a story and name your band after the main character (my band name is Hunter Gin).

why not name it krisys??? or krysys... i dont really care :D (as long as my idea gets picked ^^ )
or if you want to be creative just take a word and change a few characters
(crisis ---> krysys)

i thought of something like something somewhere, but it was more like something for somebody or The Somethings, or Something Random, but do a Myspace band search for the word "something" and you'll see why i can't go there.
bsides, something corporate is a band i like, and i can't just rip-off them that hardcore.
what about lifetime confessinal, or lifetime storys? do u like any of them?
"Lifetime" as a band name sounds to pretentious, like Sons of Thunder (Airheads...? anybody catch that flick?). plus, it's too close to Lifehouse.
There has to be a balance when naming a band.
there are rules, i think:
1) it can't be too similar to another band's name
2) it can't be too pretentious
3) it can't be too cryptic (or else i'd use something latin)
4) it can't be too stupid (like Deep Blue Something or Kiss)
5) it can't be more than three words (like the Presidents of the United States of America or The Jesus and Mary Chain)
6) it can't be too gay (like Hootie and the Blowfish or Collective Soul)
7) it can't be just my name with the word 'band' at the end
8) it can't be any better than The Beatles or Metallica, so don't even try
9) it can't just be your last name unless your last name sounds German or Russian and is still easily pronouncable by an american audience, if you're from america
10) it can't just be the name of the town you live in, unless every single band member is also from that town
11) it can't be the title of one of your songs (but it can be a lyric, like Counting Crows)
12) it can't be 'Something and The Somethings' unless you write pop songs about love and expect only women in their thirties and forties to come to your shows in primary color polo shirts with khaki capris and open-toed shoes
13) it can't be something deep and introspective if your music isn't
14) it can't be something deep and introspective if your music is
15) it can't be something somebody's girlfriend/mom/grandmother said at your band's first band practice
16) it can't be apocryphal or prophetic, meaning something that critics could use cleverly to rail AGAINST your band, like Garbage (cuz they stink)
17) it can't be something from The Bible
18) it can't be something from the Satanic Bible unless you play Death Metal
19) it can't be a metaphor for something unless you really, really feel like explaining that metaphor to everyone and everyone that comes across your path
20) it can't be nonsense, like MOOP or KORN or GWAR (again) or KMFDM
21) it can't even be too close in alphabetical order to any band that you really hate, that way people who like your music won't have to suffer through seeing that other band's albums when they're looking for yours in the cd store, that is if people are even going to cd stores in another couple of years.

it is hard to believe they haven't run across each other on the internet at least, but i can safely say most of them are aware of me now (having contacted many of them) and let me tell you the reactions were not to pleasant. :P
nonetheless, i know there are much better band names than Gunshy out there in the lexicon, so i figured i should give something else a try.
besides, Ross is 'the rough exterior of bark,' so that pretty much fits me well.

Mmm......How about the name The Same Old Thing? Cannonshy? Hazey Blurr? Still Horizon? Honestly, what do you want in the name? If you don't tell us, we could guess on and on until we get like 100000 names that are worthless.
i don't know what i want in the name. it seems like a lot of other people have these great ideas for band names, and i invite you to use any of the ones listed here for your own use. i just thought i'd dip my toe into the water, see what was biting, see what cool ideas other people had/ jeez.

that's what i'm talking about, having some name that only serves to inform people (or induce them to suspect) that i'm slightly goth or oft-depressed.
i don't even want a band name that's kind of happy just to be ironic about it (like Joy Division, cuz they're goth and depressed).
your nicknames should be your names, not someone else's... i figured that went without saying, but you're a noob so i guess i have to explain everything.
